Women’s Basketball Clinches Third Consecutive Regular Season Title

Three in double figures as SEU defeats Florida Memorial | Donnie Smith

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—The Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held on the campus of Southeastern University for the third consecutive year.

Southeastern clinched the conference regular season title with a 75-60 win over Florida Memorial.

The Fire (26-0) shot a higher percentage from beyond the 3-point arc (44.4%) than they did inside it (42.3%).

SEU needed each and every one of the 12 3’s that it hit. Florida Memorial’s (15-10) game plan was to shoot the 3-pointer over the top of the Fire zone, taking over half of its shots (37-of-64) from bonus range. The Lions converted on 11 3-point attempts.

Emma Karamovic had nine of her 15 points in the first quarter, helping the Fire jump out to a 25-12 lead after 10 minutes of play. The SEU defense buckled down and held the hosts to 11 points in the second quarter to lead 50-23 at the intermission.

The Lions gained some ground in the third quarter, using an 11-3 run spanning 5:07, but were only able to get as close as 25. Each time the Lions got close enough the make a run, the Fire were able to answer.

Ana Richter led all scorers with 24 points, and added seven rebounds, six assists, blocked three shots, and registered four steals.

Jaycee Coe connected on seven 3-pointers, finishing with 21 points, and grabbed five rebounds. Halee Printz added a balanced effort of nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and a steal in 35 minutes.

The Fire close out the regular season on Saturday at home against St. Thomas at 5 p.m.
