LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern University golf coach Steve Phelps has announced the signing of Ashlynn Joyner to a letter of intent to join the Fire this fall.
The Lakeland Christian grad comes to SEU with three years of eligibility remaining after spending last season at NCAA Division I Georgia Southern.
“I wanted to come back to a Christian atmosphere and wanted to come back home,” said Joyner.
In six tournaments last season, Joyner averaged 83.4, with a best 54-hole score of 242 at the Jacksonville Classic. She carded 13 birdies in five tournament appearances. Joyner also carded a best single round of 77 during the MSU Citrus Classic.
“Getting Ashlynn Joyner for this coming fall is huge for our women’s golf program,” said Phelps. “She will bring great experience, stability, and depth to our roster. I feel with Ashlynn joining our returners, we will have the opportunity to compete for both a conference and national title.”
Joyner is also a two-time FHSAA district champion, and a two-time Central Florida Junior Tour Player of the Year selection, and was the 2016 Junior Citrus Champion. She is the daughter of Fire assistant golf coach David Joyner, who played collegiately at Samford.
Last season, the Fire finished 14th at the NAIA National Championship.
