DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The Fire women’s tennis team was defeated by the Embry-Riddle Eagles by a score of 9-0 Thursday afternoon.

In singles play, Sharienne Ricardo forced Roberta Krvajica to win seven games in the second set of their competition. The sophomore dropped the first set 6-1 but nearly upset Krvajica in the second. With the score 6-5, Krvajica sealed the match with a victory.

The doubles competition was once again highlighted by the play of Ricardo and her partner Angelique Myrtil. Ricardo and Myrtil fell behind Embry-Riddle’s number one pairing after losing six of the first seven games of the contest, but battled back. Southeastern’s top duo won five of the next six games to bring the score to 7-6 before surrendering the winning point to the Eagles.

The women’s tennis team will be back in action when they take on Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale on February 8. Matches are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
