MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — The Bethel Pilots (14-11, 4-6) are on a three-match losing streak after being swept by a tough Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars (21-2, 8-2) team on Wednesday night in three competitive sets inside Ariel Arena.
Both sides struggled with hitting efficiency. The Pilots ended the night with a .066 hitting percentage, while the Cougars had a .160.
The first set tied eight times with the 6-1 run after the 8-8 tie caused the Pilots to battle back and tie the match back up at 14-14. From there, the two battled to 17-17 but the Cougars ran away off a 13-3 final run to take the first set 25-21.
The Pilots fell to a 12-1 deficit to kick off the second set and eventually hit double digits at 21-10 MVNU but the Cougars held BU to 17 points in their 25-17 set two victory.
Bethel didn’t leave Ariel Arena quietly with another eight different ties with the final stretch of 22-22 caused by Paige Franz’s ace and Breyana Bosket set the Pilots up to cause extra points with a kill 24-23, but the Cougars put the set and match away 25-23 and 3-0.

The Pilots face the Huntington Foresters in Platt Arena on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. to continue the Crossroads League tilt.
