2025 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship Day One Recap. Holy Cross and Grace advance

MOBILE, Ala. – [Bracket | Schedule] The First Round of the 2025 UTR NAIA National Tournament saw many tight matches, making for an exciting opening day at the Mobile Tennis Center on Tuesday.

Cumberland (Tenn.) edged out the victory over Huntington (Ind.) 4-2 that lasted approximately four hours, with one singles deciding the victory, while Middle Georgia State outlasted Morningside 4-3.

GAME NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS

  • In Cumberland’s (Tenn.) tenth appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, the Phoenix defeated Huntington (Ind.) with one singles battling cramps and injury to a 4-2 decision.
  • The battle of the Hoosier State ensued with the Grace Lancers (Ind.) besting Oakland City (Ind.) 4-1 in the Lancers’ third consecutive appearance in the National Tournament.
  • The Holy Cross Saints (Ind.) glided past McPherson (Kan.) with a 4-0 victory and will face SCAD Savannah (Ga.) in the second round.
  • Three singles matches went to three sets in Middle Georgia State’s 4-3 win over Morningside (Iowa).
  • Xavier (La.) improved their tournament record to 22-15 in their 16th appearance with a 4-0 sweep of Ottawa (Kan.).
  • The Racers of Northwestern Ohio defeated Missouri Baptist 4-2 as one of three northern teams to advance to the second round.
  • The University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) swept Tennessee Southern in the Patriots’ third consecutive trip to the National Tournament.
  • Dillard (La.) bested William Woods (Mo.) in one of four sweeps across the tournament field and will face second-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan in the second round.
