Offensive Explosion Highlights Split with Spring Arbor
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – An offensive outburst in game one propelled Taylor (22-25, 19-17 CL) to a doubleheader split with Spring Arbor (18-29, 12-24 CL) in the regular season finale.
There were many standout performances on the offensive end, including Caitlyn Grim, totaling a career-best four runs batted in in the first game, on her way to five in the pair of games, to go along with five hits and three runs scored.
Another top performer for the Trojans, Aleyah Rastetter, collected five base knocks as well as four RBI on the day.
The Trojan offense jumped on the Cougars from the start, scoring all 16 of their runs in the first four innings of the game.
Every TU batter in the starting lineup registered a base hit in the opener, tallying 16 base knocks and seven walks throughout the game.
Taylor scored six runs in the first, started on triple by Emma West and highlighted by a two RBI knock by Rastetter.
TU scored three more in the third, after the first three batters reached base. Meg Stanley was hit by a pitch and West walked, before Evans drove them both in on a double to deep right-center field.
After the Cougars scored their first run of the game, the Trojans scored seven in the fourth to put the game to bed. Grim and Rastetter both doubled in the inning, each driving in two runners.
Spring Arbor mustered four runs in the fifth, but it was not enough as the game ended 16-5 in five innings on the run-rule.
Maddi Evans (12-10) had five strikeouts in the circle to finish the season with 143, which was good enough for third in the Crossroads League.
Spring Arbor punched back in game two, winning 10-3.
Taylor got within two in the fifth after the Cougars had raced out to a five-run lead. Evans scored on a double by Ashton Whitman, before Whitman scored on a single by Grim to make the score 5-3.
Spring Arbor responded with five in the bottom of the inning to finish the scoring at 10-3 and grab the game two victory.
Taylor finishes the regular season in fourth in the Crossroads League and will begin postseason play on Wednesday, May 4th, against Saint Francis (25-23, 17-19 CL) in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals in Westfield, Indiana.
