Taylor Baseball Climbs to No. 22 in the Nation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released its latest Top-25 Poll on Wednesday, in which the Taylor baseball team (40-16) climbed into the No. 22 spot in the nation.

After the poll’s release, No. 22 Taylor went on to win the Crossroads League Tournament championship against Huntington, claiming its 40th win of the season and the program’s first league-tournament crown since 2013.

The Trojans have now rattled off eight wins in-a-row and 10 of their last 11, becoming just one of 16 teams in the nation to boast 40-or-more wins in the 2022 campaign.

A potent offense has continued to be the storyline of Taylor’s season, having posted an average of 11.6 runs-per-game throughout TU’s current eight-game win-streak. Even more, the Trojan bats have belted 14 home runs in tandem with 31 doubles, combining for 45 extra-base hits in just eight games.

As an offensive unit, Taylor has hit more doubles than any other Crossroads League team this season, while also leading the league in walks-drawn and on-base percentage. All of that makes for a good recipe with which to produce an abundance of runs, as evidenced by the fact that Taylor has driven in a total of 431 runs in its 56 games, 52 more runs than the league’s second-highest team mark.
At the national level, TU’s 431 team-RBI share the 17th spot while its 129 doubles share the eighth spot and its 305 walks sit solo in the nation’s fifth spot.

All of that to say that No. 22 Taylor looks good heading into next week’s National Tournament Opening Round, set to begin on Monday, May 16th. The NAIA National Tournament Baseball Selection Show is scheduled to air Wednesday evening, May 12th, at 5:00 pm ET.
