  • Today’s captains: senior OLB Zack Baun, junior C Tyler Biadasz, senior ILB Chris Orr, junior RB Jonathan Taylor.
  • Paul Chryst improved to 46-12 (.793) in his fifth season as UW’s head coach, including a 29-8 (.784) mark in Big Ten Conference games. Chryst is now 3-2 vs. Northwestern.
  • With his 46th win, Chryst matches Dave McClain (1978-85) for 5th on the Badgers’ all-time coaching wins list. Chryst played at UW under McClain from 1984 until McClain’s passing in April 1986.

  • Wisconsin has started a season 4-0 for the 3rd time in 5 seasons under Chryst (also 2016, 2017).
  • Wisconsin is 46-12 (.793) since the start of the 2015 season. Only  Alabama (59-4, .937), Clemson (59-4, .937), Ohio State (52-6, .897) and Oklahoma (49-8, .860) own higher winning percentages than Wisconsin over those 5 seasons.
  • The Badgers are 32-5 (.865) at Camp Randall Stadium since the start of the 2014 season. Only only Clemson (37-1, .974), Alabama (36-1, .973) and Ohio State (35-3, .921) have higher home winning percentages than the Badgers during that span.
  • Wisconsin improved to 29-8 (.784) in Big Ten play over the last 5 seasons. Only Ohio State (32-4, .889) owns a better league mark during that span.
  • The Badgers have won 3 of their last 4 meetings with the Wildcats overall, and 6 of the teams’ last 7 clashes at Camp Randall Stadium.
  • The Badgers scored a touchdown on their opening drive for the 4th time in as many games this season. All 4 scores have come in the form of a Jonathan Taylor rushing touchdown.
  • A 29-yard field goal by Northwestern’s Charlie Kuhbander in the first quarter marked the first points Wisconsin has allowed in the first half of a game this season.
  • Wisconsin limited Northwestern to 5-for-20 on third down. UW opponents are converting just 9-for-58 (15.5%) on third down on the season.
  • Including stops on NU’s first 5 third down attempts, the Badgers defense had a streak of 28 consecutive stops on third down dating back to the Central Michigan game. UW had also stopped foes on 36 of last 37 dating back to USF game.
  • The Wisconsin defense tallied a season-high 5 sacks on the day, the team’s highest total since recording 5 in a 24-10 win over Illinois in 2017. The Badgers also posted 13 tackles for loss.
  • UW recorded a pair of defensive touchdowns from DE Matt Henningsen and LB Noah Burks, marking the first such occassion in at least 10 seasons.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • Junior RB Jonathan Taylor rushed for 119 yards on 26 carries with 1 touchdown. He entered the game with an FBS-leading 10 touchdowns on the season. Taylor also caught 3 passes for 15 yards.
  • In just his 31st career game, Taylor moved past Anthony Davis (2001-04) for 4th on the Badgers’ all-time rushing list:

  • Taylor topped the 100-yard rushing mark for the 26th time in his 31-game career, matching Montee Ball for the 2nd-most 100-yard games by a Badger. Only Ron Dayne (33) has more.
  • Taylor has now rushed for 100-plus yards against 11 of the 13 Big Ten opponents. He will look to add the remaining 2 opponents — Michigan State and Ohio State — later this season.
  • Junior QB Jack Coan went 15-for-24 for 113 yards.
  • The Badgers have won each of Coan’s last 6 starts, dating back to last season. He is now 6-2 as UW’s starting quarterback.
  • Sophomore DE Matt Henningsen scored his second fumble recovery touchdown of the season,  falling on a fumble caused by Eric Burrell’s sack of Northwestern QB Hunter Johnson in the third quarter.
  • Henningsen is the first Wisconsin player to score multiple defensive touchdowns in a season since Aaron Henry had 3 defensive TDs in 2010 (2 interception returns, 1 fumble recovery),
  • He also recorded his 2nd sack of the season and finished with 3 tackles.
  • Senior ILB Chris Orr tallied his first 2.0 sacks of the season, giving him, 4.5 for his career. He also added 9 tackles and a forced fumble.
  • Junior OLB Noah Burks recorded his first-career interception in the fourth quarter and returned it 68 yards for his first-career touchdown. He also had a career-high 4 tackles and a TFL.
  • Senior OLB Zack Baun finished with 1.5 tackles for loss, giving him 6.5 TFLs on the season.
  • Sophomore ILB Jack Sanborn led UW with a career-high 13 tackles, including 1 for loss.
  • Junior S Eric Burrell tallied his first-career sack and forced  fumble, setting up Matt Henningsen’s touchdown in the third quarter.
  • Junior S Collin Wilder notched his first sack as a Badger and a season-high 5 tackles.
  • Sophomore CB Rachad Wildgoose recorded the first tackles for loss of his career, recording 2.0 TFLs.
