Trojans Blanked By Second-Ranked Knights on Homecoming

UPLAND, Ind. – A short-handed Taylor offense was controlled by the NAIA’s top-rated defense throughout the entirety of Saturday’s action, as No. 2 Marian handed the Purple and Gold a 55-0 loss on Homecoming in front of a full Turner Stadium.

Taylor managed only four yards on the ground and 72 yards through the air in the game, while converting just one-of-15 third down opportunities. The Trojans benefitted from 110 penalty yards against Marian (6-0, 2-0 MSFA) but could not turn the free yardage into points.

Grant Hohlbein hauled in five catches to pace TU, while Holden Hodge broke off a 52-yard kickoff return and ended the game with 135 yards on five returns.

Tyler Gerig led the defense with a team-best eight tackles, with Jordan Jackson posting seven hits and TU’s lone sack. Jackson Bronkema collected the unit’s only takeaway of the day with an interception.

TU (2-4, 0-2 MSFA) will look to snap its three-game slide when it plays at Lindenwood (0-7, 0-2 MSFA) on October 20 at 2:00 pm (ET). Taylor will then return home to host No. 11 Concordia on October 27 at 1:00 pm, with free admission for all Grant County residents being offered for the contest.
