Indianapolis, Quincy Earn Season’s Final Weekly GLVC Football Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis sophomore running back Al McKeller and sophomore wideout and punt returner Daveon Bell, along with Quincy University senior linebacker Cody Leonard, have been named the season’s final Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Al McKeller, Indianapolis
So., RB, Indianapolis, Indiana
Major: Criminal Justice
Team Result: 34-24 home win vs. No. 20 Hillsdale

Racked up a career-high 209 rushing yards on 22 carries, averaging 9.5 yards per attempt

Scored a pair of lengthy touchdowns (46 and 34 yards)

Finished the regular season as GLVC’s leading rusher, compiling 1,093 yards in just 10 games

Became only fourth player in program history to record back-to-back 1,000 rushing-yard seasons

Earns his third career Offensive Player of the Week award (9/4/17, 10/8/18)

Last Indianapolis Offensive Player of the Week:  Toriano Clinton (10/22/18)

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cody Leonard, Quincy
Sr., LB, Carrollton, Illinois
Major:  Management

Team Result: 23-21 home win vs. Southwest Baptist

Broke GLVC record for tackles in a game with 24 stops, including 11 solo tackles

Registered 3.0 tackles-for-loss, including one sack

Shattered the previous GLVC record for single-season tackles (145, A.J. Wentland, MCK, 2016) with 168

Finished the season ranked first in NCAA Division II with 14.4 tackles per game, and second overall with 7.7 solo stops each time out

Earns his third career Defensive Player of the Week award (9/19/16, 9/18/17, 11/12/18)

Last Quincy Defensive Player of the Week:  Cody Leonard (9/18/17)

 

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Daveon Bell, Indianapolis

Major:  Criminal Justice

Team Result: 34-24 home win vs. No. 20 Hillsdale

  • Scored on a momentum-changing 64-yard punt return in the fourth quarter to give the Greyhounds its first 10-point lead of the day
  • Play was good for Bell’s first punt return of the year and second of his career
  • Also added four receptions for 32 yards as well as a three-yard rush in the win
  • Earns his second career Special Teams Player of the Week award (10/2/17)
  • Last Indianapolis Special Teams Player of the Week:  Toriano Clinton (10/22/18)
