by | May 28, 2019 | Headlines, RRSN News | 0 comments

The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Crown Point senior baseball player Ryan Fender and Penn sophomore softball player Addyson Kois.

Fender guided Crown Point to its first sectional crown since 2011 by tossing a two-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts and two walks over seven innings in a 6-0 blanking of Portage. He also picked off a baserunner to lift the Bulldogs (28-4) into Saturday’s semifinal contest against Duneland Conference rival Lake Central (23-6) in the Class 4A LaPorte Regional at Schreiber Field.

Kois, a Lewis University recruit, had a big role in helping Penn claim its sixth straight Class 4A sectional championship. In Monday’s 14-1 triumph over LaPorte, she allowed two hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings and also helped her cause by going 4-of-4 at the plate with seven RBIs, including a grand-slam homer. Then in Wednesday’s 9-0 blanking of South Bend Adams, Kois went 2-of-3 with an RBI. Finally, in Saturday’s 17-0 blanking of host Mishawaka in the title game, she tossed a five-inning no-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk and also went 1-of-4 with an RBI. The Kingsmen (22-6) travel to Northridge (19-5) for the regional title on May 28.

The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
