Grace erupts for six goals on the road

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Grace’s women’s soccer team enjoyed a goal fest on Saturday at Shawnee State.

Liz Van Wormer scored twice during Grace’s 6-1 win. Freshman JJ Aalbue passed out two assists, and Alexis Larimore had a goal and an assist.

The Lady Lancers (2-0) netted all six goals before halftime in a whirlwind of offense.

Within eight minutes, Grace had gotten on the scoreboard. Aalbue delivered an assist to Cassidy Wasson at the 7:41 mark.

In the 18th minute, Grace’s pressure resulted in an own goal by Shawnee State for a 2-0 advantage.

Three minutes later, Larimore found the back of the net for her first goal with the Lady Lancers.

At the 29:15 mark, Aalbue had her second assist of the game when she set up Van Wormer. A mere four minutes after her first goal, Van Wormer scored again off an assist by Larimore.

Freshman Rebecca Steininger recorded her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute, sending the Lady Lancers into halftime with a 6-0 advantage.

Grace used its full roster liberally in the second half and coasted to a victory. The Bears scored a goal in the final eight minutes to serve as a consolation.

For the game, Grace held a 21-7 edge in shots. Aalbue had six shots to lead all players, Wasson shot five times, and Van Wormer had three shots.

Bethany Blackwood earned the win in goal with four saves in 90 minutes.

The Lady Lancers finish their road trip on Monday with a game at West Virginia Tech at 2 p.m.
