Titans Tie Program History Sixth Consecutive Victory after Sweeping Judson

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana University South Bend swept its fourth straight opponent on Tuesday evening inside the Student Activities Center, defeating Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Judson University (25-19, 25-23, 25-21). With the victory, IUSB extends its winning streak to six, which currently ties the longest winning streak in program history, improving to 7-5 overall and 4-1 during conference play.

Senior Robbie Berg tied Judson’s Mackenzie Ebert for the game-high 10 kills while also collecting a game-high 16 digs for a double-double in the third home contest for the Titans this season. Junior transfer Hannah Marchand followed behind Berg with nine kills, which marks the first time in her Titan career that the Sturgis, Mich. did not record double digits in the kills category.
Back-to-back CCAC Setter of the Week McKenzie Powell dished out a game-high 29 assists while also adding 11 digs for another double-double in her early career. Senior Madison Burger did what she does best, serving up three aces for the Crimson & Cream.
As a team, IUSB attacked at its best in the third and final set at a .303 clip to help boost its attacking percentage to .177 for the game. The Titans held the Eagles to a .145 percentage with an impressive set-low .079 in the first.
The first set was highlighted by five consecutive points off Marchand’s serving as the Titans pulled ahead 12-4, aiding in the victory. IUSB led by as many as four points late in the second set at 23-19. JU mounted a comeback as the score read 24-23 in favor of IU South Bend. However, Marchand clinched the set with one of her nine kills.
The deciding third set went back-and-forth while the Eagles evened the score at 20-20. Two Titan kills, two Judson attacking errors and an ace from Burger sealed the second victory at home for Indian University South Bend.
The Titans take a break from the action for 10 days and return to the court on Sept. 27. IUSB travels to Davenport, Iowa to take on CCAC opponent Saint Ambrose University at 8 p.m. (EST). On Sept. 28, the Crimson & Cream will play a doubleheader at Clarke University, facing Graceland and Clarke.
