PNW Women’s Soccer Falls to Marian (Ind.), 6-0, in Season Opener
INDIANAPOLIS – Despite 12 saves on the afternoon by junior goalkeeper Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour), the Purdue University Northwest women’s soccer team fell 6-0 in its season-opening game against Marian University (Ind.) Friday at St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis.
The Pride were limited to six total shots in the game with three of those coming from junior midfielder Shelby Ross (Nashville, Ind./Columbus North). Freshman forward Megan Miller (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) recorded two of PNW’s other three shots on goal Friday.
The Knights built an early 2-0 lead with goals in the 11th and 14th minute, respectively. After two more goals in the 22nd and 43rd minutes, Marian took a 4-0 advantage into halftime. The final two goals came in the 48th and 58th minutes of action.
Purdue Northwest (0-1-0 overall) returns to action Saturday, September 9, as the Pride host their home opener as part of the PNW Fall Sports Festival at Dowling Park. The game against Walsh University (Ohio) is scheduled for a noon start at Pepsi Field in Hammond, Ind.
