Trojans Womens Soccer Put Together Dominant Performance In Home Rout Of Saint Francis

UPLAND, Ind. – Back in the friendly confines of Turner Stadium on Wednesday evening, Taylor put on a clinic on both ends of the pitch, dominating the Saint Francis Cougars from start to finish in a 5-1 victory.

Offensively, the Trojans (4-2-0, 3-2-0 CL) controlled possession for most of the contest, recording a season-high 43 shots, 27 of which were on frame as their consistent pressure led to a plethora of scoring opportunities. The Trojans’ five goals are the second-most they have scored in a match this season.

Morgan Orme and Hannah Martinez led the way with seven shots apiece, while Linli Tu finished with five, increasing her season total to 22, which leads the team. Additionally, the Trojans finished with 12 corner kicks, three of which led directly to goals.

Saint Francis (1-3-1, 0-3-1 CL), on the other hand, had trouble moving and possessing the ball against a staunch TU midfield and back line, finishing with only six shots and one corner kick in the contest.

Riley Massey, AC Hardy, Ali Clodgo, and Martinez each recorded their first goals of the 2020 campaign against Saint Francis.  Massey opened the scoring for the Trojans in the 10th minute, heading the ball into the net off a corner kick from Kate Kortenhoeven. Hardy added to Taylor’s lead in the 34th minute off a perfect feed from freshman Caroline Monberg. Clodgo capped off the first half scoring with 1:08 remaining, giving the Trojans a 3-0 advantage at halftime, and Martinez made it 4-0 midway through the second half off a corner kick from Alanna Raikes.

Tu scored Taylor’s final goal in the 88th minute, giving her four on the season, which ties her with Orme and Erin Teevans for the team lead. Furthermore, Tu now leads the Trojans in points with 10.

Hannah Brackenbury earned her fourth victory of the season, playing a scoreless first half, while Madison Hall, in her first game action, made two saves in the final 45 minutes.

The Trojans will be back on the road Saturday, traveling to Winona Lake to take on No. 14 Grace (1-0-1, 0-0-1 CL). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
