Two Finalists for 2020 NFF Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda to Appear in Bowl Games

IRVING, Texas (Dec. 22, 2020) – The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Football Hall of Fame salutes the two finalists for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda who will conclude their seasons in an FBS bowl game.

 

The two players are among 12 finalists who will each receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2020 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One member of the class will be declared the winner of the 31st William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

 

The two finalists playing in an FBS bowl game this season include:

 

  • Sam Ehlinger, Texas QB – Valero Alamo Bowl
  • Brady White, Memphis QB – Montgomery Bowl

 

The NCAA waived bowl eligibility requirements for the 2020-21 bowl season as well as the minimum number of contests for all football teams.

 

The NFF also salutes all of the Campbell Trophy® Finalists who played this fall despite the pandemic, and who have completed their seasons: Jack Gibbens (Abilene Christian), Tyriq Harris (Charlotte), Kekaula Kaniho (Boise State), Brandon Kennedy (Tennessee), Cameron Kinley (Navy) and Elijah Molden (Washington).

Wed., Dec. 23, 2020

Memphis vs. Florida Atlantic

Montgomery Bowl – Montgomery, Alabama

7 p.m. ET, ESPN

 

This season, quarterback Brady White has led Memphis to a 7-3 record while currently ranking second in the American and sixth nationally with 3,096 passing yards. The game captain is also second in the conference and fifth nationally with 28 passing touchdowns. White is Memphis’ all-time leading passer with 10,406 career yards, and he also holds the program records for career passing touchdowns (87) and wins as a starting quarterback (27). He guided Memphis to a 12-2 season and a No. 17 final ranking in 2019, which saw the program’s first outright American Athletic Conference title and its first New Year’s Six Bowl berth in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. A grad transfer, White graduated cum laude with a degree in business from Arizona State in 3.5 years. After completing his master’s in sports administration at Memphis in just over a year, he is currently pursuing a doctorate in humanities

No. 20 Texas vs. Colorado

This season, quarterback Sam Ehlinger earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors after guiding the No. 20 Longhorns to a 6-3 record and leading the conference with 25 passing touchdowns in the regular season. He also ranks third nationally with 202 points responsible for and fourth in the Big 12 with 2,406 passing yards. Ehlinger ranks second in nearly every Texas career quarterback category. He previously earned back-to-back Offensive MVP honors following wins over No. 11 Utah in the 2019 Alamo Bowl and No. 6 Georgia in the 2019 Sugar Bowl. The two-year team captain is a three-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection and a student in Texas’ prestigious McCombs School of Business.
