Taylor Blanks Asbury for 3-0 Start to Season

WILMORE, Ky. – The Taylor men’s soccer team added another strong showing to its impressive start to the 2021 campaign with a 3-0 victory at Asbury on Wednesday evening. The win moved TU to 3-0 for the first time since opening with three-straight wins in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

In addition to coming away with a win for the third time in as many matches to open the season, Taylor also kept its opponent off the scoreboard for a third-straight time, matching the program’s longest shutout streak since posting clean sheets on October 6, 10 and 13 of the 2018 season during a 2-0-1 stretch for the Purple and Gold on the pitch.

Wednesday’s shutout at Asbury (1-2) was more lopsided than the final margin hinted, as Taylor allowed only four shots over the 90 minutes of action and fired off 13 attempts of its own. TU was also plus-six in shots on goal and plus-eight on corner kicks while dominating possession throughout.

Collin Maris’ first career goal was all the scoring Taylor would need, as the freshman received a pass from Sawyer Watterson and beat the Asbury keeper just 7:02 into the contest. The Watterson assist was also his first with the Trojans.

The lead doubled to 2-0 at the 27:45 mark, when Jhon Alzate scored off a James McBride assist and Quinn Partain’s second goal of the year capped the scoring at 3-0 at the 70:15 mark. Partain’s goal was assisted by Clay Vander Kolk.

Taylor (3-0) will look for its first four-game win streak since the 2014 season when it hosts Michigan-Dearborn (0-4) on Saturday at 7:00 pm inside Turner Stadium.
