Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 24-30

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from January 24 through 30. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

 

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kinnidy Garrard, Marian
Garrard was a force in the paint for No. 6 Marian, posting 15.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game for the Knights in a pair of victories. The junior nearly posted a triple-double against Taylor with 15 points, 10 rebounds and a program-record seven blocks.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Christian Stewart, Marian
Stewart netted 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game for No. 24 Marian in its wins over No. 14 Grace and Taylor. The senior guard shot 60.7 percent from the floor, drilled 10-of-13 triples in the two games and scored 31 in MU’s upset of Grace.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Addi Dewey, Indiana Wesleyan
Dewey automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals in the 3,000-meters and distance-medley relay in her debut for Indiana Wesleyan. The freshman won the 3,000 with a time of 10:13.47 and helped IWU post a time of 12:35.65 in the DMR.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak hit NAIA qualifying marks in three events for Marian, hitting the B-standard in the pentathlon and the A-standards in the high jump and 60-meter hurdles. Oleksak’s high jump of 1.68 meters tied the junior for the top mark in the NAIA this season.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Samuel Stoner-Eby, Goshen
Stoner-Eby won two events for Goshen at the Wide-Track Invite over the weekend, topping the fields in the 200 and 400-meter races. The junior qualified for NAIA Nationals and set new Goshen program records in each event.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Damon Knowles, Taylor
Knowles posted the top pole vault mark in the NAIA this season, automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals and set a Taylor program record with an event-winning height of 5.05 meters for the Trojans at their home meet.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Katie Fraser, Huntington
Fraser won the second Crossroads League Bowling Tournament of the season. The Huntington sophomore knocked down 824 total pins and averaged a score of 210 over four games.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Chris Mace, Indiana Wesleyan
Mace took individual medalist honors in the second Crossroads League Bowling Tournament of the season. Mace averaged 223 pins per game and posted a high-score of 247.
