Day 1 of the 2022 NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship – Round of 16

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Day one of the 2022 NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship was completed as Southeastern (Fla.), Morningside (Iowa), Thomas More (Ky.) and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) will continue their battle for the red banner after punching their ticket to the quarterfinals as Sioux City celebrates 25 years of hosting NAIA women’s basketball.
Day two of the championship will continue with the remaining four games in the Round of 16 to fill out the quarterfinal games. Quarterfinal matches will be played on Saturday, March 19.
Southeastern (Fla.) def. Bethel (Tenn.), 70-48 | Box Score
The top-ranked Fire used a 10-0 run to begin the second half, extending their lead to as much as 22 in the second half.
Southeastern is now 11-6 all-time in the NAIA tournament. Bethel (Tenn.) falls to 7-14.
Angela Perry led all scorers with 21 points for the Fire. Leilah Vigil added 11 points.
Millie Bryant led all Bethel scorers with 14 points. Ryann Roberts added 12 points.
Morningside (Iowa) def. Carroll (Mont.), 71-67 | Box Score
No. 2 Morningside shot 40% from deep to continue its battle for the red banner in the 2022 #NAIAWBB Championship.
Morningside is now 43-16 all-time in the NAIA tournament. Bethel (Tenn.) falls to 16-24.
Taylor Rodenburgh put up 23 points off the bench to lead the Mustangs, shooting 7-for-9 from the floor. Sierra Mitchell tallied 19 points.
Carroll’s Jamie Pickens led all scorers with her 24 points. Danielle Wagner contributed 17 points and seven rebounds.
Thomas More (Ky.) def. Bryan (Tenn.), 95-62 | Box Score
The Saints used a 17-2 run to end the half to separate themselves from the Lions and hit 16, 3-pointers, en route to a 95-62 win in the Round of 16.
Thomas More is now 7-1 all-time in the NAIA tournament. Bryan (Tenn.) falls to 5-10.
Courtney Hurst and Taylor Clos paced the Saints attack with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Alexah Chrisman grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Bryan’s Gracee Dishman led all scorers with her 24 points, Deandra Luna grabbed a team-high seven boards.
Rocky Mountain (Mont.) def. Wayland Baptist (Texas), 66-53 | Box Score
The Battlin’ Bears had three players score double-digits as Rocky Mountain dropped 16 team assists.
Rocky Mountain is now 3-4 all-time in the NAIA tournament. Wayland Baptist falls to 32-28.
Kloie Thatcher led the Battlin’ Bears with 15 points. N’Dea Flye dropped a double-double performance with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and tallied eight assists.
Wayland Baptist’s Angel Hayden led all scorers in the game with 17 points, Kaitlyn Edgemon had 11 boards for the Flying Queens.
