KISSIMMEE, Fla. – IU South Bend Softball spent the past week competing at the PFX Spring Games, closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule with eight games over the past five days.

The Titans (9-13) picked up two victories, defeating Concordia (Mich.) 2-1 in extra innings on Tuesday, and Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) 5-3 in the trip’s finale on Thursday.

Maddie Leisher and Emily Cave led the offense, hitting .409 and .400 respectively, with a combined 15 base hits and six runs scored. In the circle, Maddy Edwards came away with a 1-0 record and perfect 0.00 ERA, throwing 9.2 innings and securing a complete game win over Hannibal-LaGrange.

In the win over Concordia (15-11), Leisher put the Titans in front on an RBI single in the 1st inning, scoring Savanna Schmitz. The Cardinals came back with a game-tying run in the 4th, but starting pitcher Abby Yarnell retired the next 12 hitters as IUSB finally took the lead for good in the 9th inning.

Shelby Baker drove in the game-winning run on a ground out, allowing Olivia Zarantonello to score after being placed on second to start the inning, then advancing to third on a passed ball.

In the win over Hannibal-LaGrange (3-14), Edwards’ two-run home run in the top of the 5th started a five-run rally in the inning to secure the victory. The freshman also pitched all seven innings, working around eight hits and three unearned runs to pick up her third win of the season.

The Titans now prepare for the start of CCAC play next week, when they travel to Saint Xavier for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 26. First pitch from Chicago is set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
