Titans split series-ending doubleheader with Trojans

GRANGER, Ind. – Playing a pair of road games in their home stadium, IU South Bend split a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, dropping the first game to Trinity International 4-3 before bouncing back in game two, 9-1. The twinbill was scheduled to take place on the TIU campus on Saturday, but was moved to Rex Weade Stadium after the wet weather washed out any chance to play.
Zack Dobos earned the win for the Titans (8-12, 2-2 CCAC) in game two, throwing six innings without an earned run, while scattering three hits and striking out eight.
The Titans took a big early lead, scoring six runs in the top of the 2nd and remaining in front the rest of the way. Nolan Unger drove in two runs in the middle of a ten-batter rally, driving in Colin Mack and Tony Reyes as IUSB collected five hits in the frame.
IU South Bend added to their lead with an RBI single from Evan Allen in the 4th inning, and another RBI single from Unger in the 5th.
Jack Kienzle kept the lead through the 7th and 8th innings, striking out four batters and retiring six straight batters. Jackson Krueger pitched a scoreless 9th to secure the win.
Unger, Allen, and Reyes all had a pair of singles to lead the Titans at the plate, with Unger’s 3 RBI the most in either game on the day.
In the first game of the day, Donnie Necas finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Bryson Taylor pitched six innings with just three hits and one earned run allowed, but the Trojans (8-10, 1-3 CCAC) rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 9th to steal the 4-3 win.
The Titans return to The Rex on Monday, when they host Calumet for a CCAC doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
