TU Chosen to Host Opening Round of 2022 NAIA Baseball Championships

KANSAS CITY – For the second time in program-history, Taylor University’s Winterholter Field will serve as a host venue for the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Rounds, as announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Taylor was chosen as one of 10 total hosts, scattered throughout the country, that were given the opportunity to facilitate the opening rounds of the 2022 National Championships, which are set to take place from May 16th through May 19th.

The various host locations include Bellevue, Nebraska; Kingsport, Tennessee; Lawrenceville, Georgia; Lewiston, Idaho; Miami Gardens, Florida; Montgomery, Alabama; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Santa Barbara, California; Shreveport, Louisiana; and the beautiful Upland, Indiana.

Each of the ten sites will host either a four-team or five-team, double-elimination tournament, with the winners of each bracket advancing to compete in the Avista NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho set to begin on May 27th.

2022 marks the second year that Taylor’s Winterholter Field has been chosen as a host venue for the opening round of the national tournament, four years after the program’s first opportunity back in 2018.

Accompanying the honor of serving as host, the Trojans (36-16, 26-10 CL) also receive an automatic bid to compete in the opening round of the national tournament, marking the program’s first appearance in nationals since its previous hosting-opportunity in 2018.

The national field will consists of 46 teams, yet to be determined as the various conference-tournaments are slated to unfold later this week, though Taylor’s spot is locked due to its role as host.

The other 45 teams joining Taylor in the National Championship Opening Rounds will be announced during the NAIA Live National Championship Selection Show, scheduled for 5:00 pm ET on Thursday, May 12th. You can watch the selection show live on the Play NAIA Facebook page.
