Bethel baseball earns doubleheader split with league leading Huntington

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots Baseball team (13-15, 6-10) split the final doubleheader with the Huntington University Foresters (19-7, 13-2) on Friday, which puts the Pilots in seventh place in the Crossroads League.

GAME 1

The Pilots struck first in the bottom of the first on an Eli MacDonald two-run homerun which plated Jeremy Wiersema to get an early two-run advantage. Thomas Dolan followed up with his third home run of the season in the bottom of the third, coupled with an RBI single by Alex Stout to put the Pilots up 4-0.

Huntington chopped down the Pilot lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth on an RBI single and ripped another RBI single in the top of the sixth to get within two runs of Bethel.

Jordan Landkrohn swung in two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to give the Pilots the 6-2 victory and break a six-game losing streak.

Ty Mickiewicz earned his third win of the season after throwing 7.2 innings, allowing 12 hits on two runs, three walks, and one strikeout.

GAME 2

Huntington got a three-run lead after the top of the third inning before Andrew Miranda swung in Silas Kaser on an RBI double and made it a 3-1 ballgame.

The top of the fourth was a big rally for the Foresters, who plated six runs in the top of the fourth inning, during which the Pilots had a one-run answer from Corbin Greenslade with an RBI single.

The top of the fifth was one last push from Huntington, who scored three more runs and rode the 12-2 lead to the series and the game two victory.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Corbin Greenslade went a perfect 4-for-4 on the day.
The Pilots drew eight walks between both games and only gave up 11 to Huntington.
THE PILOTS TAKE THE ROAD

Bethel takes on RV Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Ind., on Thursday, Mar. 30, and Saturday, Apr. 1, with the first pitch on Thursday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
