Valpo Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

The Valpo soccer program continues to excel academically and was honored for its success in that realm once again this week, as the Beacons received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for their performance in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year.

The award is presented to soccer programs annually with a composite grade point average of 3.00 or better for the academic year, including both fall and spring semesters. Valpo posted a team GPA of 3.66 during the 2022-23 academic year to earn the honor for the 20th time in the last 21 years.

Valpo has consistently enjoyed academic success under head coach John Marovich, boasting five CoSIDA Academic All-America selections — including four First Team choices — and 27 conference Scholar-Athlete honorees during his tenure. An MVC-best five student-athletes earned Scholar-Athlete recognition from the Valley last season, as Allie Anderson, Nikki Coryell, Abbey Hillman and Nicole Norfolk were named to the Scholar-Athlete First Team, while Addy Joiner was a Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention choice. In addition, Norfolk earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-North/Central Region Second Team as well.
