Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | November 6-12

 JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from November 6 through 12. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Alex Long, Spring Arbor
Long averaged 17.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game to help Spring Arbor to a pair of lopsided victories. The junior guard shot 50.0 percent from three-point range and posted a 19-point, 11-rebound gem against Olivet Nazarene.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gabe Newhof, Spring Arbor
Newhof averaged 25.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a pair of victories for Spring Arbor. The sophomore post shot 63.6 percent from the field and netted 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting in SAU’s 99-94 win over Concordia.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Eva Joldersma, Indiana Wesleyan

Joldersma led No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan to a pair of 3-0 sweeps to secure the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Joldersma had 20 kills and 11 digs against No. 24 Bethel and 17 kills against No. 20 MVNU, while posting 6.2 kills per set on a .375 percentage.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Marta Zambetti, Indiana Wesleyan

Zambetti averaged 1.5 blocks, 2.3 kills and 1.0 digs per set for No. 2 IWU in its sweeps of No. 24 Bethel and No. 20 Mount Vernon Nazarene in the CL Tournament, helping the undefeated Wildcats to the tourney title.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan

Porter helped second-ranked Indiana Wesleyan cruise to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship with 78 assists over six sets in the victories over a pair of top-25 foes. Porter averaged 13.0 assists per set to go with 3.3 digs.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Lauren Marshall, Spring Arbor
Marshall netted the game-winning goal in No. 2 Spring Arbor’s 2-1 win over No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship match. The senior forward powered the SAU attack in the contest with six shots and three shots on goal.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Megan Mihaly, Spring Arbor
Mihaly anchored the defense for No. 2 Spring Arbor in its wins over No. 10 Marian and No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan. Mihaly and the Cougars allowed just one total goal on three shots in those two matches, helping SAU to its first CL Tourney Championship since 2018.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Luan Bressey, Bethel
Bressey’s overtime goal against No. 5 Grace lifted No. 9 Bethel to a 2-1 victory and the Crossroads League Tournament Title. Bressey also netted one goal and assisted another in BU’s 3-1 semifinal win over RV Marian.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Mathis Neuhaus, Bethel
Neuhaus posted five saves over two Crossroads League Tournament victories for No. 9 Bethel, helping the Pilots secure the CLT Championship with a 3-1 win over RV Marian and a 2-1 win over No. 5 Grace.
