SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (7-0, 1-0 CCAC) defeated the Indiana University Northwest RedHawks (4-4, 1-1 CCAC) by a final score of 75-62. Tuesday’s win makes the Titans winners of seven consecutive games to begin the season.

Last year’s CCAC Tournament Championship rematch started out at a fast pace with the first quarter ending 21-17 in favor of the Titans. IUSB guard Katie Gard and IUN guard Jessica Carrothers came out hot both scoring double digit points in the quarter.

A swarming IU South Bend defense held the RedHawks to just eight second quarter points as the Titans took a 40-25 lead heading into halftime.

IU Northwest won the third quarter 18-12 to cut the IU South Bend lead to 52-43 heading into the final quarter of play.

A back and forth fourth quarter saw the RedHawks cut the lead to as little as seven before IU South Bend closed out the game on a 7-1 run to bring home the victory by a final score of 75-62.

A balanced IU South Bend offense featured all five starters scoring double digits, led by Katie Gard who finished with a team high 21 points.

Gard’s 21 points came on better than 50% shooting from the field and 5-6 from the three point line. Gard has now knocked down 11 of the last 12 three point field goals that she has attempted, moving her into second place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in points per game and three point field goal percentage.

Both Emma Fisher and Tenleigh Phelps finished Tuesday’s conference opener with double-doubles.

Fisher’s double-double came via 13 points on an efficient 6-9 shooting from the field while also collecting 10 rebounds.

Phelps’ double-double came on 10 points thanks to a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line while also hauling in 10 boards.

As a team, the Titans shot just under 50% from the field, 50% from the three point line, and 10-14 from the free throw line.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, November 29th, when they travel to Notre Dame, Ind., to take on the Saints of Holy Cross College at 5:30 PM.
