CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Indiana men’s soccer head coach Todd Yeagley recorded his 200th head coaching victory Sunday (Nov. 26) in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 as the Hoosiers defeated No. 7 national seed Virginia, the program that beat IU in the 1994 national championship match – Yeagley’s final game as and IU student-athlete.
Freshman Collins Oduro’s 11th-minute goal was the difference as IU shut out the Cavaliers 1-0 to move on to the Elite Eight for the 29th time in program history, extending the NCAA record.
Indiana will play the winner of Western Michigan and No. 2 national seed Notre Dame, a match kicking off at 5 p.m. ET Sunday.
KEY MOMENTS
• 10′ – Indiana absorbed pressure in the opening minutes, giving way to a couple Virginia chances. Their best chance early came from senior midfielder Mouhameth Thiam who, after a nice bit of combination play, found himself open on the left side of the box but sent his effort into the crossbar.
• 11′ – Moments later, Indiana had the breakthrough. The Hoosiers played quickly down the left side to senior forward Maouloune Goumballe. Goumballe took it toward the end line and played across the box. Oduro met the cross at the top of the six-yard box and slipped it in.
• 47′ – Virginia had a shot on goal right out of the half, but senior goalkeeper made the save, diving to his right.
• 63′ – A long ball was played ahead of Virginia freshman forward Stephen Annor Gyamfi. Harms came off his line to get it, but the Cavalier was the first to the ball and headed over Harms towards goal. Senior Jansen Miller rushed back and cleared the ball off the line just in time to keep IU’s lead intact.
• 70′ – Miller made another goal-line save a few minutes later as a headed attempt leaked towards the inside of the post. The senior nearly did the splits to get his foot to it but was on time again.
NOTABLES
• Indiana earned its eighth-straight win and 12th win 13 games.
• The Hoosiers handed the Hoos their first defeat since Sept. 22. Indiana was also just the second team to shut out Virginia this season, earning its ninth clean sheet of the season – which matches last year’s total.
• IU has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinal round in three of the last four seasons as well as five of the last seven.
• Yeagley’s 200th victory is his 193rd since becoming IU’s head coach ahead of the 2010 season. Since then, no NCAA Division-I men’s soccer coach has more wins. Coach Yeagley has 362 victories as a head coach, assistant coach and player. Sunday marked his 27th NCAA Tournament victory.
• IU is 5-2-1 against Virginia all-time. Sunday was the first-ever matchup in Charlottesville. The last seven meetings have all been decided by one goal.
• With his assist to Oduro, Goumballe has tallied a goal contribution (five goals, three assists) in each of his last eight matches.
• Oduro tallied goal No. 5 of his freshman campaign. He has scored twice in three NCAA Tournament matches.

Indiana advances to the Elite Eight to face the winner of Sunday evening’s matchup between Notre Dame and Western Michigan. Time and location of the match are TBD.
