Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 19-25
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from February 19 through 25. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Ella Collier, Marian
Collier helped. No. 2 Marian complete the league schedule with an undefeated mark by averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in title-clinching wins over MVNU and No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gus Etchison, Marian
Etchison scored at least 26 points in each of Marian’s wins, leading the RV Knights past MVNU and to an upset of No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan. Etchison avergaed 29.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the two wins.
Baseball Player of the Week
Mason David, Taylor
David highlighted the offense for No. 9 Taylor in its 3-0 week by hitting .545 over 11 at bats. The junior reached base safely at a .615 clip, belted three extra-base hits and drove in seven runs to fuel the Trojan attack.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
John Hojnowski, Spring Arbor
Hojnowski tossed a complete-game win at Georgetown in a 5-1 Spring Arbor victory. The freshman hurler fanned seven over seven innings, did not allow an earned run and did not issue a walk in the contest.
Softball Player of the Week
Kaylee Larkin, Taylor
Larkin led Taylor to a 3-1 showing that included a pair of wins over RV Campbellsville and a narrow loss to No. 3 Cumberlands. Larkin hit .727 in those four games, belting two homers and three doubles, while scoring four runs and stealing one base.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Mackenzie Noah, Taylor
Noah picked up a win and a save in the circle for Taylor, helping the Trojans to a 9-8 win over Rio Grande and a 10-4 win against RV Campbellsville. Noah went the distance in the win against Campbellsville and recorded the final two outs to seal TU’s victory over Rio Grande.
