Bethel Baseball Sweeps USF (IN) in season home opener

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots Baseball squad (8-12, 3-7) and the Saint Francis Cougars (12-10, 3-7) square off in a doubleheader Friday afternoon as Bethel took both game one (6-2) and two (4-2).

GAME 1

Cooper Tolson went for one RBI, three hits, and two runs scored at five at bats.

Jacob Sitterly had two RBIs, which brought in Andrew Dillon in the bottom of the third and Tolson in the bottom of the fourth.

Elijah Gaines singled to left field, which earned him an RBI on the day that brought in Jesse Stout to give the Pilots a 6-2 lead.

Frank Plesac (3-2) pitched eight innings, allowing two runs, walking three, and striking out eight.

GAME 2

St. Francis struck early as they found two hits and two runs in the top of the first.

Bethel responded with a Stout single to bring in Jordan Landkrohn.

The Pilots tied the game in the bottom of the third, as Stout flew out to the left field, but Tolson was able to make it home to tie the game at 2-2.

The Pilots kept the pressure up as Thomas Dolan roped one to left field, and Landkrohn scored his second of the game.

Dominic Deisler was walked in the bottom of the 6th, which advanced all the runners, bringing Gaines home for a 4-2 lead.

Brad Vanoverberghe pitched for six innings, gave up six hits, walked five, and struck out six.

Ethan Lengfelder is credited with the save for the Pilots as he came in and closed the game out.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Pilots stay home as they play games three and four against Saint Francis (Ind.) on Mar. 16. at 1 p.m. for the first pitch. Check out the games on the Bethel Sports Network in conjunction with the Regional Radio Sports Network, with the pregame show starting at 12:45 p.m.
