MISHAWAKA, Ind. — On a wet and sunny afternoon on Saturday, the Bethel Pilots (8-21, 4-12) split with the Huntington Foresters (13-13, 5-7) at Gardner Field.
GAME 1
Madison Shaw had a two-hit day and was 2-for-2 at the plate, contributing to the Pilots five in the 4-1 win. Ryann Norris threw a complete game-one hitter with three walks and punched out two.
Desiree Boone drew a throw on a double steal, allowing Madison Shaw to sneak home for the Pilots’ first run in the bottom of the second.
Meghan Younger drove a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Shaw, who tagged up from third and grew the lead to 2-0 in the fourth. Alyssa Forys hit a swinging bunt that scored Averie Markel; then Morgan Blubaum smacked a single to plate Hannah Goldsboro for the Pilots’ fourth run.
Huntington did not go quietly after an RBI double to left center, but the Pilots would ultimately end a five-game losing streak
GAME 2
The Foresters put up three runs in the second with an RBI single to third base with the throw not in time, a throwing error by the catcher, and an error by the first baseman.
Hannah Goldsboro answered in the bottom of the fourth from an RBI single down the right field line 3-1.
Huntington dropped six runs in the top of the fifth and forced the eight-run rule 9-1.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Pilots face the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Tuesday, April 2, at 3 and 5 p.m. at Gardner Field. Tanner Camp will be on the call at 2:40 p.m. for the pregame show on the Bethel Sports Network in conjunction with the Regional Radio Sports Network.
