Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 15-21

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from April 15 through 21. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Nick Parsons, Saint Francis
Parsons mashed five home runs and drove in 13 runs in USF’s four-game sweep of Grace. In the series, Parsons hit .462 with a .650 on-base percentage, scored eight runs and also added one double, with six of his eight hits going for extra-bases.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
RJ Anglin, Huntington
Anglin tossed a complete game shutout against RV Indiana Wesleyan and closed the week at 1-0 with a 1.38 earned-run average and 0.85 WHIP in two outings. Over his 13 innings of work, Anglin fanned 15 hitters and allowed just two runs.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Brylee Bilger, Indiana Wesleyan
Bilger was back at it for the No. 17 Wildcats, hitting .429 with two home runs and nine runs scored in six games. Bilger’s production helped IWU to a split with No. 8 Marian, as the junior homered and drove in four in the pivotal, 4-3, victory.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian
Stunkel did not yield a run in 19 innings of work, as she lifted No. 8 Marian to a trio of wins. In the circle, Stunkel went 3-0 in the three starts, allowing just eight hits and four walks to go with 20 strikeouts and the 0.00 earned-run average.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Tipping, Marian
Tipping posted the fifth-best all-time mark in the NAIA with a distance of 65.28 meters in the hammer to lead Marian at the Little State Championships. Tipping also broke the meet record in the shot put and hit the NAIA-A standard in those two events, as well as the discus.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Dimitri Margaritidis, Grace
Margaritidis led the Grace 4×800-meter relay to a first-place finish with an NAIA-A standard time of 7:40.11 at the Little State Championships. The graduate senior also added a win in the 1,500-meters as well.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Annika Alderfer Fisher, Goshen
Fisher scored wins in the 4×800-meter relay and 1,500-meters for Goshen at the Little State Championships and also finished second in the 800-meters. Additionally, Fisher’s performance in the relay helped GC post the third-best time in the NAIA this year at 9:14.01.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Princess Kara, Indiana Wesleyan
Kara won the discus and shot put for Indiana Wesleyan at the Little State Championships, with A-standards in each event. Kara’s mark of 54.14 in the discus is the longest in the NAIA so far this season.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Pablo Gregori, Grace

Gregori went 3-1 on the week, helping No. 19 Grace to wins over Indiana Wesleyan and No. 25 Oakland City. The junior was unbeaten at No. 2 singles for the Lancers in the two matches and scored a key win at No. 1 doubles in the top-25 clash with Oakland City.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Jonah Kumfer, Bethel

Kumfer led Bethel at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout by firing rounds of 73 and 71 to finish in a tie for sixth place. Kumfer’s second-round score of one-under par moved the junior up the individual leaderboard.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Shayne Lim, Taylor

Lim posted rounds of 74 and 72 to win the Ackerman-Allen Shootout. The sophomore led No. 21 Taylor to the team title with her first-place finish.
