Texas still No.1; UCLA, Texas A&M join Top 10 in USA Today/NFCA DI Top 25 Coaches Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Texas tightened its hold on No. 1, while UCLA and Texas A&M climbed into the top 10 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Following a three-game Big 12 road sweep of then-RV Kansas, the Longhorns (38-6) extended their win streak to nine games. UT has also won its last 23 games over the Jayhawks in Lawrence, dating back to 2008.

Second-ranked Oklahoma (42-4) posted four wins to become one of two Division I programs – No. 23 Boston University (40-4) was the other – to reach the 40-win mark over the weekend.

With Duke and Stanford stumbling last week, Tennessee and Oklahoma State elevated to No. 3 and 4, respectively with the Blue Devils (39-6) and Cardinal (36-10) dropping to No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.

The Lady Vols (34-8) knocked off LSU, who is now No. 6, in Southeastern Conference play, sandwiching a pair of 3-0 shutouts around a 1-0 blanking by the Tigers (35-10). The Cowgirls (39-8) won four contests last week, rallying past Wichita State in mid-week action and sweeping Texas Tech in Big 12 action.

Duke dropped two-of-three at home to Virginia in an Atlantic Coast Conference series, which witnessed three one-run games, the final two going to the Cavaliers on April 20. No. 8 Washington stood pat after a Pac-12 series win at No. 20 California.

Newcomers to the top 10 – No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 Texas A&M – were a combined 8-0 last week. The Bruins (27-9), who have won 10 of their last 11, went the Farm and swept then-No. 5 Stanford, blanking the Cardinal twice in games one and three. The Aggies (37-9) opened the week with a 9-4 SEC series-clinching win at Alabama, followed by a road win at North Texas and a league series sweep of Ole Miss.

Three teams – No. 13 Virginia Tech, No. 16 Florida State and No. 21 Kentucky – all moved up multiple spots this week.
