Titans drop final regular season doubleheader to Aquinas

NAPPANEE, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (14-30, 7-9 CCAC) dropped both games of their doubleheader to the Aquinas College Saints (37-11, 15-7 WHAC) falling in game one 9-2 before dropping game two in extra innings 6-4.

Game 1

Game one remained scoreless until the third inning when Aquinas plated a run in the third inning to take an early lead.

IUSB third baseman Danielle Gebhart tied the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth that scored Kaitlynne Allen.

Three runs in the fifth and five runs in the seventh gave the Saints a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Danielle Gebhart got the Titans one run closer with an RBI double that scored Olivia Zarantonello to shorten the IUSB deficit. The Titans could not score again the seventh and dropped game one by a final score of 9-2.

Game 2

Aquinas jumped out to an early lead in the top oft the first thanks to a solo home run before IU South Bend second baseman Jordan Watts gave the Titans a 2-1 lead with a two run home run in the bottom half of the inning.

Game two remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth inning when the Saints hit a three run home run to take a 4-2 lead.

IUSB responded quickly in the bottom half of the fifth when catcher Maddie Leisher hit a two run home run to tie the game 4-4.

The game remained tied through regulation and extended into extra innings when the Saints scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 6-4 lead. IU South Bend got the tying run into scoring position in the bottom half of the frame but could not push any runs across and ultimately fell in game two.
