Holy Cross Claims Back-To-Back Women’s Tennis Tournament Crowns

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — With its 4-0 victory over Roosevelt University on Saturday afternoon at the Eck Tennis Pavilion, Holy Cross College made it back-to-back Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament titles for the program.

The NAIA No. 20-ranked Saints also claimed the regular-season crown.

Holy Cross used a pair of 6-0 wins in doubles play to go up 1-0.  The No. 1 team of Kia Carvalho-Landell and Nicole Martinez as well as the No. 2 duo of Anna Bear and Victoria Savvidou earned the victories.

Martinez also won in singles play, collecting a 6-0, 6-3 decision.

Holy Cross’ other two victories on the singles side were secured by Maria Sanchez at the No. 2 spot and Diane Maillotte at No. 6.  Sanchez won 6-3, 6-1, while Maillotte yielded only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Holy Cross now takes its 10-2 record to the NAIA National Championships, which will be held May 14-18 in Mobile, Alabama.
