Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 22-28

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from April 22 through 28. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Player of the Week
Jordan Malott, Huntington
Malott led Huntington to a series win over Marian by hitting .615 in the four-game set with eight hits in 13 at bats. Malott also homered twice, doubled twice, drove in 10 runs, scored five times and stole two bases without being caught.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Kyler Hinken, Spring Arbor
Hinken fired 7.1 innings of shutout baseball for Spring Arbor in a 3-1 win over RV Indiana Wesleyan. The freshman righty fanned five and allowed just three hits and three walks en route to earning the win on the bump.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Sierra Norman, Marian
Norman caught fire for No. 8 Marian, batting .600 over a 6-0 week for the Knights. Norman belted three home runs and drove in 13 while scoring nine times to power MU to the CL’s regular season title.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Nadia Hoffman, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Hoffman took the ball three times for MVNU and piled up 17 innings of work, while going 2-0 with a 0.82 earned-run average. In addition to allowing just two runs, Hoffman yielded only six hits and fanned 23 batters.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Luke Pohl, Indiana Wesleyan
Pohl set a new IWU program record in the 5,000 meters by crossing in a time of 14:20.19 to take fifth overall at the Drake Relays. Pohl’s time was the sixth-best in the NAIA this season and automatically qualified the graduate senior for Nationals.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Lyssi Snouffer, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Snouffer eclipsed 1.69 meters in the high jump to win the event and highlight MVNU’s showing at the Walsh Invite. The mark automatically qualified Snouffer for Nationals.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Princess Kara, Indiana Wesleyan
Kara turned in another impressive mark in the discus, this time posting a mark of 54.12 meters to finish fifth at the Clark Wood Open.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Brandon Heffner, Marian

Heffner played to medalist honors for RV Marian at the Sagamore Invitational, carding scores of 69 and 73 to pace the field of 62.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Shayne Lim, Taylor

Lim continued her strong play for No. 21 Taylor, winning the Sagamore Invitational with scores of 73 and 76 to top the field of 25.
