Bethel Baseball completes fall series win over Michigan Dearborn

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Jenkins Stadium hosted the series finale between the Bethel Pilots (3-1) and the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines (1-7) in 6-4 and 10-1 wins on Saturday to win the series 3-1.

GAME 3

The scoring began in the top of the third with the Wolverines knocking an RBI double to left, while the Pilots answered in the bottom of the frame with Corbin Greenslade’s sacrifice fly to left field to plate Jordan Landkrohn to tie the game 1-1.

Adam Walters continued his tear in the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field scored Elijah Gaines and took the lead 2-1, then Landkrohn added an insurance run with a line out to center but allowed Hudson Francis to tag up and score from third and grow the lead to 3-1.

Francis singled past the second baseman to score Ta’Shaun Coleman in the bottom of the fifth and grew the lead to 4-1, but UMD answered back in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right and an RBI single to left center to get within one run 4-3.

Greenslade answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a big RBI double followed by Coleman looping a single to left center and extended the Pilot lead to 6-3.

In the Wolverine’s final chance in the top of the seventh, UMD scored on a passed ball but fell short of a Pilot 6-4 win.

Andrew Dillon earned his first win of the season with Luke Mast getting the save after two innings of work. Dillon threw five innings and only allowed two hits and one run with five strikeouts.

GAME 4

Bethel went on an offensive onslaught starting with Jacob Sitterly’s three-run homer over the right field fence giving the Pilots a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Elijah Gaines knocked in the fourth run with a ground out to third and Coleman took off from third to make it 4-0 in the second After a few innings of silence, Landkrohn blasted a double to left to score Jesse Stout in the fifth along with Greenslade’s single down the left field line and grew the lead to 6-0.

In the sixth, Francis took advantage of an error by a throwing error from the UMD catcher for the seventh run and Stout roped in three more runs with a home run blast to left center for a 10-0 Pilot lead.

UM-Dearborn hit a sacrifice fly to left to break up the shutout but Bethel and James Paden got the win after Paden’s 5.2 innings of work with no runs allowed, four hits, and six strikeouts. Adam Walters put the game away and earned his first save of the season after 1.1 innings pitched with only one hit and one run allowed.
