MEN’S SOCCER
After being named the interim HU men’s soccer head coach in August, Nick Potter has been officially hired to lead the program moving forward as announced by athletic director Lori Culler.

“We are excited to remove the ‘interim’ tag and have Coach Potter step into the fulltime position,” said Culler. “Over the course of the past three months, he has demonstrated both on and off the pitch that he is the right person for the job.

“His desire to lead and mentor young men has been evident and his success speaks for itself. The future of the program looks exceptionally bright.”

The Huntington program has thrived under Potter’s direction. With postseason play set to begin Wednesday, the Foresters have already amassed 12 wins which includes upsets over #3 Bethel and #6 Indiana Wesleyan. HU clinched the Crossroads League regular season title Wednesday night at Marian. It’s the program’s first regular season conference championship since 1989.

“I am incredibly honored to accept the role of head coach for the men’s soccer team at Huntington University,” said Potter. “I’m grateful to the administration for their trust, and I look forward to leading our student-athletes with a commitment to excellence that reflects both the program’s rich history and God’s greatness.

“This is a unique opportunity to inspire, empower, and elevate each player and the athletic program as a whole, and I am truly excited for the journey ahead.”

In addition to his success this fall, Potter brings a wealth of coaching experience to the position which includes currently serving as the head coach for the 1927 SC men’s amateur team out of Fort Wayne. His soccer-related roles in the Fort Wayne area span over two decades. He was the director of operations and assistant coach for the Fort Wayne Fever Premier Development League and the Fort Wayne Fever Youth Academy.

While serving as the technical director and head coach for Fort Wayne United FC, the club tallied nine Indiana State Championships. Potter was also an assistant coach for Fort Wayne FC USL 2 for four years and in 2023 in his first season as head coach of the 1927 SC men’s team, he led his squad to a Midwest Premier League (MWPL) Great Lakes Conference Championship.

Potter will also put his playing experience to good use. He boasts a storied playing career having played Division I soccer at the University of Evansville after which he played professionally for Tennessee Rhythm.

In addition to coaching, Potter is the co-owner and operations manager for HY2 Sports, a soccer training center. He earned a BS in Business Administration from Evansville and holds USSF B, C and D Licenses from the U.S. Soccer Federation.

The top-seeded Foresters (12-4-2, 6-2-1) will host 8th-seeded Saint Francis on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in quarterfinal action of the CL tournament.
