Starck Named National Freshman of the Year, One of 14 Big Ten Players Named AVCA All-Americans
Seven Big Ten schools represented among 2024 honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Fourteen Big Ten volleyball student-athletes have been selected as All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), announced on Wednesday. Penn State’s Izzy Starck was also recognized as the National Freshman of the Year, the first Nittany Lion to receive the honor since Ali Frantti in 2014.

Seven Big Ten institutions were represented among the 14 honorees, with two additional schools featured on the 2024 honorable mention list.

Nebraska and Pittsburgh led the nation with four selections each. Oregon, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin each had two All-Americans, while Illinois and USC had one.

Starck adds National Freshman of the Year to her list of first-year achievements after she was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year and the East Coast Region Freshman of the Year. Starck was the only freshman to be named an All-American on either the first or second team and joins fellow first-year setter Charlie Fuerbringer of Wisconsin as the only two freshmen to be named an All-American of any distinction, including honorable mention.
