Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 6-12

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from January 6 through January 12. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Alana Nelson, Spring Arbor
Nelson highlighted a 1-1 week for Spring Arbor with 25.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per outing. Nelson posted double-doubles with over 20 points and 10 rebounds in each outing and shot 50.0 percent from the field.

 

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Syanne Mohamed, Goshen
Mohamed swatted nine shots for Goshen in its wins over Spring Arbor and Taylor. The senior center averaged 4.5 blocks, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game to go with her 15.0 points per victory.

 

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Anton Webb, Taylor

Webb scored 26 in Taylor’s 79-76 win over No. 22 IWU and poured in 33 in a 110-102 triple overtime win over Goshen. In addition to scoring 29.5 points per game on 64.7-percent shooting, Webb averaged 14.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and two blocks per victory.

 

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Anton Webb, Taylor
Webb was a force on both ends of the court in Taylor’s victories over No. 22 Indiana Wesleyan and Goshen. The senior forward averaged 12.5 defensive rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game, including two blocks in the third overtime of the victory over GC.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Ellyn Coe, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Coe scored a pair of wins for Mount Vernon Nazarene at the CapFam Alumni Classic. The senior finished first in the 800-meters with a time of 2:26.00, before helping MVNU to the 4×400-meter relay title with a time of 4:42.74.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Lyssi Snouffer, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Snouffer provisionally qualified for NAIA Nationals with a leap of 1.65 meters in the high jump at the CapFam Alumni Classic.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Bryce Wiles, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Wiles topped a field of eight to win the 60-meter dash at the CapFam Alumni Classic. Wiles won the race for MVNU with a time of 6.90 seconds.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Tyler Shipley, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Shipley opened his indoor season with a provisional standard and first-place finish in the pole vault for Mount Vernon Nazarene at the CapFam Alumni Classic. Shipley posted a mark of 1.75 meters.
