Double-Figure Numbers Propel IUSB’s Ryan, SXU’s McCleery To Baseball Weekly Honors

CHICAGO — Double-figure numbers posted by Indiana University South Bend’s Jack Ryan (Harwood Heights, Ill.) and Saint Xavier University’s Logan McCleery (Patterson, Calif.) during the seven-day period ending April 20 have earned the pair Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

Ryan totaled 22 runs batted in in just five games with four contests of no less than four RBIs to garner CCAC Player of the Week recognition.  That was created by his four doubles and four home runs, leading to a 1.350 slugging percentage to go along with his .550 batting average (11-for-20).  His other numbers included nine runs scored and three walks.

The senior second baseman had quite the four-game series in a sweep of University of St. Francis over the weekend.  Twenty-one of his 22 RBIs came in the series as did all four home runs.  He also went 10-for-16 for a .625 batting average.

Ryan opened the series with three of his four hits being home runs on Friday when he drove in 10 runs in 10-6 and 10-8 victories.  On Saturday, he did one better with 11 runs batted in and six hits, including a perfect 4-for-4 first game.

Defensively, Ryan was just as perfect, fielding all 17 of his chances (9 putouts, 8 assists) without error.

Indiana South Bend was also perfect on the week, going 5-0 to improve to 15-13 in the conference and 20-26 overall.

McCleery also used a double-figure number to net CCAC Pitcher of the Week accord.  He struck out ten batters against no walks in just 5 2/3 innings of a 6-1 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday.  At the same time, the senior yielded just one hit and the one earned run.

Saint Xavier solidified its first-place standing in the league with its 4-1 week.  The Cougars are 26-19 overall and 19-9 in conference play, two games in front of their next-closest challenger.
