The Holy Cross College women’s soccer team put together a determined performance on Thursday night at Saints Field, but ultimately fell 2–1 to St. Francis (IL) in the CCAC Semifinals.
The Saints created early momentum, outshooting the Fighting Saints 9–8 in the opening half and generating several dangerous chances, but St. Francis capitalized on two opportunities in the 26th and 36th minutes to take a 2–0 lead into halftime.
Holy Cross continued to push in the second half, and their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Frances Parks buried a late goal off an assist from Mia Garatoni, cutting the deficit to one. The Saints kept the pressure on and saw multiple looks in the final minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Goalkeeper Janiah Juarez anchored the defense with nine saves, keeping the Saints within striking distance throughout the match.
Though Holy Cross’ CCAC postseason run concludes in the semifinal round, the Saints’ season is far from over. With their strong body of work this year, they have earned a ticket to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The program will learn its site assignment and official match date next weekend.
The Saints will now shift their preparation toward the national stage as they continue their postseason journey. More details will be shared as soon as they are announced.
