Davis, Koch, Gilliard cited as IBCA Players of the Week; Warsaw, North Knox, South Central (Elizabeth) named IBCA Teams of the Week

 

            Senior Laniah Davis of Marquette Catholic, junior Kenzie Koch of Eastern Hancock and senior Gracyn Gilliard of Center Grove have been selected Week 1 winners in the IBCA Player of the Week program for 2025-26.

            Also, Class 4A No. 4 Warsaw, Class 2A No. 2 North Knox and South Central (Elizabeth) each is recognized as an IBCA/Ballogy Team of the Week for the performances during the week of Nov. 3-8 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

            Players of the Week are cited by IHSAA District – Davis for District 1, Koch for District 2 and Gilliard for District 3. Teams of the Week are cited at the discretion of the program coordinators, former Martinsville coach Kip Staggs for boys and former Brownsburg coach Debbie Smiley for girls. Players and teams are recognized based on all performances in a Monday through Saturday week.

            Davis is honored after averaging 23.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.5 steals in a 2-0 week for Class A No. 2 Marquette Catholic (2-0). The 5-7 guard opened with 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and five steals in a 66-40 victory over Westville. She followed with 27 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Blazers defeated South Bend Adams 72-51. For the two games, she was 18-of-37 from the field, 4-of-12 on 3-pointers and 6-of-10 on free throws. Davis produced her 18th and 19th career double-doubles in the games, which also were her 54th and 55th consecutive double-figure scoring outings.

            Koch tallied averages of 26.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 9.0 steals for Class 2A No. 7 Eastern Hancock (2-0). The 5-9 guard netted 28 points, nine rebounds, 9 assists and 11 steals in a 92-8 decision over Wes-Del. Later, she totaled 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and seven steals as the Royals topped Rushville 55-26. In the two games, Koch was 22-of-25 shooting, 5-of-11 from distance and 4-of-4 from the line.

            Gillard had norms of 23.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals for Class 4A co-No. 7 Center Grove (2-0). The 5-11 wing scored 26 points with four rebounds, three assists and four steals in a 49-47 decision over Franklin Central. She then provided 20 points, three rebounds, one assist and three steals as the Trojans outlasted Fishers 47-38. For the week, Gilliard was 12-of-29 from the field, 5-of-10 on 3-pointers and 17-of-26 on free throws.

            Team of the Week honors went to Warsaw (2-0) after it defeated Fort Wayne Snider 51-47 and Norwell, the defending Class 3A state champion now in 4A, 69-55; to North Knox (1-0) after it upset Class 3A No. 5 Washington 48-47 in overtime; and to South Central (Elizabeth) (2-0) after it beat North Harrison 74-63 and Clarksville 63-51. This is the Rebels’ first 2-0 start in 18 seasons. The Warsaw coach is Lenny Krebs. The North Knox coach is Steve Meurer. The South Central (Elizabeth) coach is Rachel Conder.

            This is the 18th season for the IBCA Player of the Week program. This is the second season for the IBCA Team of the Week program and the second season the Team of the Week program is presented by Ballogy, an IBCA corporate partner.

            The IBCA will begin boys’ Player and Team of the Week honors on Dec. 2.

            Coaches may nominate players and teams via buttons on the IBCA website (in.nhsbca.org). Coaches must be a current-year member for their players and/or team to be selected for a weekly award. Girls’ winners are chosen from now through the Monday following the IHSAA girls’ State Finals. Boys’ winners are chosen from Dec. 2 through the Monday following the IHSAA boys’ State Finals.
