ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL: The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the
Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl
Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2025 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first
regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 2 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 7. The
pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes
a computer program designed by Sports Systems to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual vote
NOTES:
For only the fourth time in the history of the poll and the first time since 2023, the nation’s top three teams remain in the same order for the fifth consecutive week. The longest such streak occurred in 2018, when Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame topped the poll for seven straight weeks.
Ohio State received 51 of 56 first-place votes and remained No. 1 for a school-record 12th consecutive week after a 48-10 win at home against UCLA in Week 12.
No SEC member has been ranked in the top two for eight consecutive weeks, marking the conference’s longest absence since a nine-week period in 2015.
Alabama was the nation’s highest-ranked team to lose in Week 12. The Crimson Tide fell six spots to No. 10 after a two-point loss at home against Oklahoma. The Sooners moved up three slots to No. 8 by virtue of the win in Tuscaloosa.
Georgia advanced one spot to No. 4 after a 35-10 home win over Texas. The Longhorns fell out of the poll completely after the loss and were replaced by No. 16 USC.
Texas Tech moved up one slot to No. 6 after a 48-9 home victory against UCF, marking the highest ranking ever for the Red Raiders in the poll and the highest for a Big 12 school since Texas reached No. 3 on December 3, 2023.
The SEC led all conferences with six teams, followed by the Big Ten with four, the Big 12 with three, the ACC with two and the FBS Independents with one.
