IUSB Women’s Basketball Defense Dominates

SOUTH BEND – IU South Bend left no doubt on Wednesday evening, turning in a wire-to-wire performance in an 82-51 victory over IU Northwest — the Titans’ most lopsided win over the RedHawks since at least 2009. The win also marked IUSB’s first conference triumph of the season.

IU South Bend (3-3, 1-1 CCAC) dictated the tempo immediately, scoring the first four points and never trailing. Booker opened the scoring with a layup, and Chambers followed with back-to-back drives to push the lead to 8-3 within the opening three minutes.

By the end of the first quarter, the Titans led 19-11 and had already forced 11 turnovers. The separation only grew from there. A 24-10 second quarter powered IUSB to a 43-21 halftime advantage, punctuated by a Booker triple and a Hudson layup in the final minutes of the half.

IU Northwest (1-6, 0-2 CCAC) struggled to find any rhythm, shooting just 28.8 percent from the field and 18.8 percent from three, while the Titans answered with efficient scoring (49.3 percent) and a near-perfect 9-10 effort at the foul line.

The Titans continued to build their lead in the third quarter. IUSB pushed the margin past 30 with a 10-0 run, while holding the RedHawks scoreless for four and a half minutes of gametime. The lead hung around 30 the rest of the way, as the Titans cruised to victory.

A week after earning her second-straight CCAC Defensive Player of the Week award, Bradie Chambers again set the tone. The senior guard scored 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go along with five rebounds.

Chambers’ energy sparked a balanced offensive night, as four Titans reached double figures:

Aubrie Booker – 18 points, including early points to jumpstart the offense

Keylee Hudson – 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting

Ava Grant – 14 points, including three fourth quarter threes

Tenleigh Phelps added six points and a game-high 11 rebounds, along with two blocks.

The Titans return to action on the road on Saturday, facing Mount Mary at 2:00 pm.
