MATT’S MATCHUPS 2025 FOOTBALL – STATE FINALS

My goal is finishing above 80 percent remains alive as I went 9-3 (75 percent) last week. Heading into the state finals, my overall record is now 238-53, which keeps me at 82 percent.

CLASS 6A

Westfield (11-2) vs. Brownsburg (13-0) (7 p.m. EST Saturday): The No. 6 Shamrocks suffered a 14-10 loss to top-ranked and defending state champion Brownsburg on September 26. Logan Loring snatched a pair of interceptions in Westfield’s 35-14 win at No. 10 Carroll (Fort Wayne). Chancelor Adams recorded seven tackles and a pass deflection in the Bulldogs’ 31-0 win over No. 11 Warren Central. Matt’s pick: Brownsburg 23, Westfield 20.

CLASS 5A

Merrillville (11-2) vs. New Palestine (13-0) (7 p.m. EST Friday): Stanley Freeman accounted for nine tackles with two for loss in the No. 5 Pirates’ 41-14 win over No. 6 Concord. Garrett Ranes registered eight tackles in the No. 1 and defending Class 4A state champion Dragons’ 42-0 win over No. 4 Bloomington South. Matt’s pick: New Palestine 35, Merrillville 14.

CLASS 4A                    

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (12-2) vs. Indianapolis Roncalli (11-3) (3 p.m. EST Saturday): The No. 6 Royals squeezed past No. 8 Bishop Dwenger, 3-0, on August 22. Henry Jordan was 9-of-16 for 63 yards and carried the ball eight times for 18 yards in the Saints’ 28-7 win over No. 7 Saint Joseph. Jaxson Lawson contributed 11 tackles, a sack, and two pass deflections in Roncalli’s 42-14 win over No. 4 and defending Class 3A state champion Heritage Hills. Matt’s pick: Roncalli 27, Bishop Dwenger 13.

CLASS 3A

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (9-5) vs. Cascade (14-0) (3 p.m. EST Friday): Thomas Reichert went 2-of-2 for 46 yards in the defending state runner-up Knights’ 35-0 blanking of No. 4 Knox. Michael Langley accounted for five tackles and an interception in the No. 2 Cadets’ 49-34 win against No. 3 Gibson Southern. Matt’s pick: Bishop Luers 24, Cascade 21.

CLASS 2A

Andrean (12-1) vs. Brownstown Central (14-0) (11 a.m. EST Saturday): Dylan Gore completed 5-of-7 for 36 yards in the No. 5 59ers’ 24-19 upset of top-ranked and defending state champion Adams Central. Owen Wischmeier racked up three tackles and an interception in the No. 2 Braves’ 31-21 win at No. 3 Lapel. Matt’s pick: Brownstown Central 33, Andrean 27.

CLASS 1A

Pioneer (13-1) vs. South Putnam (12-2) (11 a.m. EST Friday): Micah Rans ran nine times for 50 yards with a score in the No. 3 Panthers’ 31-14 win over No. 12 South Adams. Hayden Tincher chipped in a 29-yard touchdown reception and a pair of tackles in the No. 5 Eagles’ 40-7 win over Milan. Matt’s pick: South Putnam 31, Pioneer 21.
