Hickey Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Five Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

Hickey Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Five Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

 

Valpo volleyball senior libero Emma Hickey (Granger, Ind./Penn) was honored for her stellar work both on the volleyball court and in the classroom Tuesday, as she was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Hickey was joined by four of her teammates on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team.

 

On the court, Hickey was recognized as the MVC Libero of the Year and a First Team All-MVC performer this year. A five-time MVC Defensive Player of the Week this season, Hickey ranks 11th nationally with 5.06 digs/set. She is 17th in NCAA D-I history with 2,665 career digs, the active career leader in digs across all divisions.

 

In the classroom, Hickey carries a 3.936 GPA as a civil engineering major. A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honoree, Hickey has earned the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award, been named to the MVC Honor Roll and has been honored with Valpo Presidential Academic Honors. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and has contributed to undergraduate research in civil engineering.

 

Below are Valpo’s five MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honorees. Schools were allotted up to five spots on the Scholar-Athlete Team, and athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 and have competed in 75% of the team’s matches and/or have started in 50% of the team’s matches.

 

–          Sam Warren, 5th, 4.00 (grad)/3.870 (undergrad), Healthcare Administration (master’s)/Healthcare Leadership (bachelor’s)

–          Emma Hickey, Sr., 3.936, Civil Engineering

–          Mara Thomas, Jr., 3.83, Communication

–          Lilly Merk, So., 3.900, Chemistry

–          Jordyn Gove, So., 3.971, Sports Management
