After holding the top position for the previous 14 weeks, Ohio State dropped two spots to No. 3 following the loss in Indianapolis.

SEC Champion Georgia climbed to No. 2, ending the SEC’s 10-week stretch without a team ranked in the top two. Alabama slipped only two spots to No. 11 as a result of its 21-point loss in the conference title game.

Texas Tech moved up one spot to No. 4 after defeating BYU 34-7 in the Big 12 Championship, marking the highest ranking in program history and the best for any Big 12 team since Texas reached No. 3 on December 3, 2023. BYU dropped three spots to No. 14 after the loss in Arlington.

Virginia dropped out of the poll following a seven-point overtime loss to Duke in the ACC Championship Game and was replaced by USC, which entered at No. 16. American Conference champion Tulane led all Group of Five programs this week with 35 voter points.

ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL:
The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2025 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 2 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 7. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by Sports Systems, a TicketManager company, to compile the rankings and the Cody Kellner Points Index to publish the individual votes.
