The Holy Cross College men’s basketball team closed out the 2025 calendar year with a hard-fought 78–73 loss to Goshen College on Monday evening at McKenna Arena, marking the Saints’ first game back after the holiday break.
Holy Cross struggled to find an early rhythm as Goshen built a 32–24 lead at halftime. Despite the deficit, the Saints responded with a much stronger second-half performance, shooting over 60 percent from the field after the break and outscoring the Maple Leafs 49–46 in the final 20 minutes.
Jayden Sanders led the Saints with a double-double effort, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. Joey Garwood paced Holy Cross offensively with 19 points, and Callaghan Weatherspoon and Donovan Waleskowski each added 11 points. Karl Birgisson chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds, giving the Saints 5 players in double figures.
Holy Cross showed resilience down the stretch, cutting into a double-digit deficit late in the second half, but Goshen was able to hold on at the free-throw line to secure the win.
The Saints finished the night shooting 53.3 percent from the field and held a 42–34 advantage on the glass, but turnovers and bench scoring proved costly.
The Saints will look into the new year as conference play continues at home on Saturday January 3rd, 2026 against Olivet Nazarene! Tipoff is set for 3:00PM
