IUSB Men’s Basketball Streak Ends at ONU

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — IU South Bend saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 76-67 at Olivet Nazarene in a tightly contested conference matchup inside McHie Arena.

The Titans (13-5, 8-2 CCAC) battled throughout and stayed within striking distance deep into the second half. The opening 20 minutes leaned towards the Tigers but IUSB earned its first lead with a 9-0 run near the eight-minute mark. James Stevenson led the push with four points, while Ethan Hill capped the rally with a triple.

After trailing by four at halftime, IU South Bend and Olivet Nazarene traded the lead for a few minutes, before the Tigers retook control. The Titans continued to hang around within a possession or two and were tied at 60-60 with just over three minutes remaining.

However, Olivet Nazarene sealed the game on a decisive 12-0 run, as the Titans went cold from outside and ONU dominated the paint.

Free throws were a major factor on Saturday. The Tigers went 20-of-22 (90.9 percent) from the stripe, including 17-of-19 in the second half, while IU South Bend finished 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) overall.

The offensive production was spread out with four players hitting double-digits in points. Kyle Millender provided a spark off the bench, netting 11 points and three assists. Collin Schmidt went for 10 points on efficient shooting, while Mark White added 10 points, including five made free throws. Ethan Hill also chipped in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds

Next on the slate for IUSB is a matchup at Saint Xavier on Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
