The Holy Cross men’s basketball team battled through a tightly contested matchup but ultimately fell 64–53 to Viterbo on Saturday afternoon at McKenna Arena

The game remained close throughout, with both teams trading defensive stops and struggling to find consistent offensive rhythm. Viterbo held a slim 32–26 advantage at halftime, and despite multiple second-half pushes by the Saints, Holy Cross was unable to close the gap.

Joey Garwood led the Saints offensively with 18 points, consistently attacking the basket and converting from the free-throw line. Donovan Waleskowski followed with 14 points and added a strong presence on the boards with a team-high 14 rebounds, recording a double-double effort. Karl Birgisson chipped in 6 points and 8 rebounds, while Holy Cross continued to compete defensively down the stretch.

Holy Cross struggled from the field, shooting 28% overall and 16.7% from three-point range, but kept the game within reach by converting 78.6% from the free-throw line. The Saints forced key stops late in the second half but were unable to string together enough scoring possessions to overcome Viterbo’s steady play.

Holy Cross will look to bounce back on the road as they travel to Governors State on Wednesday, January 21st, with tipoff scheduled for 8:30 PM, following the women’s game earlier that evening.
